NDE trains 50 young unemployed people in agriculture in Osun
The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo assured Nigerians that the NDE is committed to providing adequate training opportunities for productive self-employment, successful entrepreneurship and agro-industrial companies.
The CEO of NDE, gave the assurance during a speech in Oshogbo, the capital of Osun State, through NDE State Coordinator Mr. Julius Fakunle at the start 5-day intensive skills training in goat production for 50 selected participants in the state and 900 of them. beneficiaries in the 18 states of the federation.
According to him, “goat production is an economically viable business, as its value chain for commercial production has great employment potential, as well as a good source of meat, milk, hides and skins and fertilizer from the fall.
He pointed out that the engagement of unemployed youth in the goat production sector, along its value chain, plays an important role in the socio-economic and religious life of farming communities, in terms of income and food supply for the local population and the country at large.
Mallam Fikpo, said that the NDE will continue to stimulate the interest of all unemployed young people, especially in agriculture, and replace centuries-old farming methods with modern techniques of income-generating agriculture, improve the means of subsistence of the rural population, to create employment, to reduce rural-urban migration, to improve the protein intake of the population and to provide raw materials for the leather manufacturing industries.
The NDE boss also assured that Management will continue its policy of creating an enabling environment for youth participation in sustainable agricultural programs, provision of agricultural inputs and credit facilities, with interest rate 9%, in order to achieve food security.
He urged all other categories of unemployed people in Osun State to avail themselves of the job opportunities provided by NDE through its innovative programs and activities in the state.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Director of Rural Employment Programme, REP Department, NDE Headquarters, Dr. Michael Mbata represented by Ms. Tola Olaoye, urged the trainees to consider themselves lucky to be shortlisted among thousands of interested unemployed people in the State, while noting that NDE’s interventions have helped the Nation reduce the scourge of unemployment among the youth, women and people with special needs that were swarming.
The training program is structured to include topics such as introduction to goat husbandry, goat feeding, goat management, disease prevention and control, goat meat processing/packaging and the marketing of goat products, among others.
